David Young was born and raised in Middle Tennessee, where he met and married Julie Harrison. They grew up working in the church, and David began preaching regularly at age 16.
David majored in Bible and biblical languages at Freed-Hardeman University, where he graduated summa cum laude in 1983. While a student at F-HU, David preached regularly for several churches.
Upon graduation David and Julie moved to Southeast Missouri where David preached for four years and completed the M.A. in New Testament from Harding Graduate School of Religion with a 4.0 perfect gpa.
In 1987 David moved back to Smyrna to work as an associate minister for the Smyrna Church of Christ, where he and Julie were raised. While working for the church, David also completed a second masters degree and the Ph.D. at Vanderbilt University, both degrees taken summa cum laude. These degrees were in New Testament and early church history.
David also taught five years as a visiting instructor at David Lipscomb University during this time and as teaching scholar at the Vanderbilt Divinity School and Graduate Department of Religion. He has also taught university level coursework at the Novosibirsk Pedagogical Institute in Novosibirsk, Russia, at the Korean Bible College in Seoul, Korea, and at the Southern Christian University in Montgomery, Alabama.
Throughout his ministry, David has traveled widely studying, teaching, and preaching. He has spoken at lectureships at throughout the United States and has done mission work in Asia, Central America, Europe as well as North America. He has taken tours of the Holy Lands and various American Restoration sites.
He has published chapters in several books, has circulated numerous papers, and has published several books, including Alive in the Spirit: A Biblical Theology of the Holy Spirit and Extreme Discipleship: Following Jesus from the Gospel of Mark.
In 1992 David and Julie came to North Boulevard Church of Christ in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He served as the pulpit minister of the North Boulevard congregation for over eight years. In those years, the North Boulevard church doubled to over 1400 in attendance, becoming the fifteenth largest church of Christ in America.
In 2001, David moved to Overland Park, Kansas to serve as the senior minister of the Overland Park Church of Christ.
After five years in Overland Park, David and Julie moved back to the North Boulevard Church of Christ in Murfreesboro, Tennessee to assume the role of Preaching Minister.
David and Julie have two redheaded children, Rachel and Jonathan.
